Social Soundscape was an experiment in real-time, crowd-based music generation. It was created specifically for SXSW 2014.

By using live geotagged twitter data, our web app transformed the city of Austin into a massive digital orchestra. Each block in Austin's downtown area was represented by an instrument that would trigger when SXSW attendees tweeted from that location.

What emerged was an ephemeral audio-visual experience that lived and breathed as festival goers tweeted about their time at SXSW. The site now lives as an interactive time-lapse that takes a look back at the social trends of the 2014 conference.
